| Shipping
quotes are generally for basic vanning charges only. There may
be other costs involved and we will try to warn you of these
ahead of time. Some examples of additional costs may be:
Brokerage: Horses travelling
from Canada to the U.S. and horses making formal entry into
Canada (i.e. horses bought in the U.S.) are charged a per
horse fee.
Vet Inspection: If your horse
is travelling into the U.S. for longer than 30 days it requires
an inspection by the U.S. Federal Vet on Entry. This fee is
on a per horse basis. Horses entering Canada that have not
resided in North America for 60 days will require a veterinary
inspection as well.
Lay Over: Coast to Coast
travel often entails resting the horses overnight at a layover
facility to reduce stress. Other circumstances may also cause
there to be lay over charges. Some examples would be horses
at our lay over facility while waiting shipping/delivery or
horses requiring short term lay over from sales such as Keeneland
and Fasig-Tipton thoroughbred sales. These charges are on
a per horse/ per day basis and vary based on the prices charged
by the various layover facilities.
G.S.T.:
Goods and Services Tax (GST) is charged by the Canadian Government
on all shipments that begin and end inside Canada. This charge
is added to all shipping costs and is not generally reflected
in our quotes. Also horses that are purchased in the US but
will reside in Canada are charged GST based on their value
when they enter the country and the brokerage fee to enter
them also has GST. All GST charges are payable IMMEDIATELY
to Castleview Equine Transport when the horse is delivered.
